Devotional Recommendation

Girls,

This post is for you!! :) I know it's always a struggle for me to find good devotional books that aren't too cheesy and superficial. I went to our local Christian bookstore in search of a new devotional book, really wanting something. I must have stood in the devotional aisle for 10 minutes trying to decide what to buy. I was praying, "Lord, there's so many to choose, which one do you want me to read?!!! I'm getting overwhelmed here!!" I ended up buying Pure, by Rebecca St. James. If you have not heard of this woman, she is amazing. She spoke at the purity ball I went to with my Dad a couple of years ago and she is really inspirational. Her passion is purity, and saving ourselves for our husbands. I know that I tend to disregard alot of the purity books, just because they say the same thing over and over again and I'm too prideful to admit that it wouldn't hurt me to read another one. Anyway, this devotional does not just focus on physical purity. Alot of us girls do not have that pressure at the moment. I'm not dating anyone so that's not a huge issue/temptation for me at this point in my life. However, I can focus on purity of the heart and mind. This is what Rebecca St. James talks about in her book. Purity of heart, mind, and body. So far, I'm REALLY enjoying it! The devotionals are pretty short, so I've been supplementing with a study of Isaiah which is really good too. So.... hope that someone benefits from me sharing this! :)
PS- if you haven't listened to Rebecca St. James' song Wait for Me it's really good too! :) A great song to pray when you're praying for your future spouse! :)

I am going to have to check it out, thanks for sharing. What do you belive about dating? I belive that dating only leads to trouble and hartache. I think once I meet someone that I know is a strog christian and loves God, then we should become friends and get to know eachother, but never date. Then if we have a desire just get married, that way there is no dating involved. I truly belive this is how it should be done, at least for christians so that we can keep ourselves pure and always be living for God.
I like this quote that I heard on the radio one day "If you are in a relationship with someone and you are not helping and encouraging to them draw further to God, then it isn't one you should be in." I thought it was really eye opening and puts the this societies dating to shame.

(Sorry if there are spelling mistakes! No spell cheak on here! LOL!)

Hey,

I think we have similar thoughts on dating! I believe that until someone is ready/able to get married, they should not pursue exclusive relationships (hence the reason I'm not dating in high school). Once someone is old enough, mature enough, etc to get married, then I believe that it is okay to start dating. I used to think that dating altogether was bad but now I've realized that you have to do something to get to know the person better. So once you're ready, then you become friends with the person. After you're good friends with the person, then if both of you have mutual feelings you can go from there. I think that so much damage is done by bad relationships in this world. I don't want my heart broken over and over again by stupid dating relationships! This culture has really twisted everything.

So there's my view! :)
